Confederation of Aerial Industries(CAI)

The UK trade body for aerial and satellite installers, with member standards and a complaints route. The trade is otherwise unregulated, so membership is the main available filter.

Signal Strength vs Quality(Strength and quality)

Two different measurements. Strength is how much signal arrives; quality is how clean it is. A strong but noisy signal produces pixelation that adding an amplifier makes worse, because the amplifier boosts the noise too.

Grouped vs Wideband Aerial(Grouping)

Aerials tuned to a portion of the band rather than all of it. After the various frequency clearances, an old grouped aerial can be pointing correctly at a transmitter that no longer broadcasts in its group — a common cause of channels vanishing.

Communal Aerial System(IRS)

The shared distribution system in a block of flats. Faults are usually the building’s responsibility rather than yours, so in a flat the first call is normally the freeholder or managing agent, not an installer.
