Monocouche

A through-coloured render applied in one pass, needing no painting. Durable and low-maintenance, but the colour is integral, so a future change means over-painting and accepting the maintenance cycle you originally avoided.

Silicone Thin-Coat Render(Silicone)

A flexible, water-repellent topcoat applied over a basecoat and mesh, usually on insulation or blockwork. It resists cracking and staining better than cement and is the common modern choice on new build and external wall insulation.

Breathability(Vapour permeability)

How readily a render lets moisture vapour pass through it. On a solid wall this is not a preference but a requirement — an impermeable render on a breathable wall relocates the damp rather than curing it.

Bell Cast Bead(Bell cast)

The profile at the base of a render throwing water clear of the wall below. Omitting it lets water track back behind the render at ground level, which is where render failures characteristically begin.
