Capping Over(Cap-over)

Fixing new uPVC directly over the existing timber fascia rather than removing it. It is faster and cheaper, and it is only sound practice where the timber beneath is genuinely dry and solid — which requires someone to have actually looked.

Full Replacement(Full replace)

Stripping the old timber back and fitting new boards to the rafter ends. It costs more, exposes any rot or wasp damage, and is the only method that lets the installer confirm the rafter feet are sound.

Eaves Ventilation(Ventilation)

The continuous airflow gap at the eaves that keeps the roof void dry. Replacing soffits without reinstating ventilation is a common and consequential shortcut — it produces loft condensation that is then misdiagnosed as a roof leak.

Bargeboard

The board running up the sloping edge of a gable, as distinct from the fascia along the horizontal eaves. It is frequently quoted separately, so check whether a roof-line quote covers the gables or only the front and back.
